History was made recently when our boys hurling team qualified for the Cumann na mBunscol Hurling Final for the first time ever. This match will take place next Wednesday night in the Centre of Excellence in Fenagh. The time has not yet been fixed but we will let you know and all support is welcome.  We are so delighted for the team and of course, Ms. Tomlinson and Mr. Curry who have put in many hours in organising games and training the team. The Bennekerry Gardening club have been working very hard over the last few weeks and have been making the best of the nice weather! In the last two weeks we have been working on our vegetable patches at the back of the school. Firstly, we cleared the beds of weeds and old bulbs and  we prepared them for planting. Then the fun began!

We wish Michaela Deenadayalan the best of luck as she and her family attend a prize-giving ceremony for the Rotary Club Photography Competition on Monday next, 14th May. Micahela has been asked to say a few words about the competition, her own photograph and how she feels about being awarded second place overall. 

The "Bags to School" initiative which was organised by our very active Parents'Association was a great success. 307 bags were collected in total. Thank you so much to those of you who kindly donated and a huge heartfelt thanks also to the parents who gave up their time to supervise the drop offs and collections. All monies raised will be put to good use and we have already purchased new equipment which will help in implementing the Aistear programme in the Infant classes.

The Eason's Spelling Bee County Final took place here today  in Bennekerry National School.

We are delighted to announce that Reading Resolutions is running in Bennekerry NS for 3 weeks! It started Monday February 12th and will run until Friday March 2nd.       

Well done to our U 11’s and U 13’s Quiz team members who took part in Stage 1 of the Carlow District Credit Union Schools Quiz which was held on 26th January 2018. The U11 team won 1st place on the night while after an extremely close tie break the U13 team came in at 2nd place. The U11 team will now go forward to Stage 2 of the competition in March. Congratulations to both teams.

We recently purchased a laptop caddy for our school laptops. This allows the laptops to be moved easily to the different classrooms in the school. The children can use these for a wide variety of activities. See some photos below of our laptops in use.
